grindworks is proud to announce that Masters Champion and perennial world top 20 player Patrick Reed has chosen Japanese premium golf brand grindworks as his equipment of choice. This collaboration between Mr. Reed and grindworks not only involves Mr. Reed playing grindworks golf clubs but also partnering with grindworks on the development of new models and the growth of the brand .

In order to commemorate this inaugural event, grindworks will be releasing the Patrick Reed Signature Iron set for sale on August 10th. This special 8 piece (3-PW) PR-101A forged iron set comes specially boxed and will be limited to only 100 sets globally.

The PR-101A forged iron was developed together with Mr. Reed based on his needs as a top pro. Mr. Reed approached grindworks last year about creating iron that would allow him to knock down shots from any distance without worrying about ballooning or loss of direction. Using soft S20C forging to enhance feel and spin, we created a stepped design for the Iron which places a focus on stability and control by raising the center of gravity height. This allows Mr. Reed to attack the pin with a more penetrating shot and heavier spin resulting in shots closer the pin.

Mr. Reed put a prototype of the PR-101A into play in December 2019 at the Hero World Challenge and went on to win the World Golf Championships in Mexico in February with the irons. So far in the short 2020 season, Mr. Reed already has 1 victory and 6 top 10 finishes on the PGA Tour using the PR-101A and is currently ranked 8th in the world.

The PR-101A has a smallish head with less offset that frames the ball well at address. The sole is narrower and the leading edge is straighter but with relief which helps interact with the turf more cleanly at impact by minimizing fat shots/digging. The stepped back muscle helps create a thinner top line which is more eye pleasing for the better player. The stepped design also helps with functionality and feel, the thicker area is larger towards the toe which prevents the head from over rotating closed thus minimizing pulls and hooks. The step groove in the middle makes the sweet spot slightly thinner, increasing spring effect and the widening the sweet spot of the face for more ball speeds and more forgiveness.

Premium S20C soft carbon steel forging and a finish in half satin NiCr plating results in a more pure feel and more bite on the ball . A mix of clean and modern aesthetics will appeal to a wide variety of golfers looking for an iron that focuses on feel, stability and shot making.

The Limited Edition grindworks x Patrick Reed PR-101A irons are shafted with N.S.PRO MODUS3 TOUR 105 steel shafts which feature a smooth bend profile and feel thanks to a stiffer tip and slightly softer mid section. The mid spin and mid flight characteristics of the shaft pair well with the head in creating a stable and powerful trajectory. The slightly lighter weight (106.5g) allows more players to play this iron, light enough for the amateur golfer to create more speed and distance by allowing them to load and feel the shaft, yet stable enough for the stronger player to produce stronger and consistent shots. An all around shaft for a premium forged performance iron.
